Shapes, Movement & Super Skills in Year 1

Last week Year 1 had lots of fun!  In Maths, we were exploring 3D shapes.  They looked at which shapes slide or roll down a ramp.  They predicted what they thought would happen and explained why.  The children discovered that the shapes with a curved face rolled down and those with a flat face slid down the ramp!

In PE, they explored using different movements.  They pretended to be wild animals and had to use different sequences of movements to get across different obstacles.  They used their bodies to slide, slither, walk and jump.

Our new Wider Curriculum topic is looking at the impact that engineering has had on humans.  The children have been looking at how cars have changed over time and have compared old and new cars, learning about the designer of the Mini car.  They also discussed what components make a car and created a design brief.
