Year 1 Shine a Light on their Investigations!

Jeffers Class have had a fantastic start to the year, settling into our new classroom and exploring all the exciting areas of provision.   We've been busy spotting capital letters in our favourite books like real detectives, and practising our fine motor skills by cutting a range of patterns.

In science, we’ve been investigating which materials would make the best curtains.  Using torches, we explored which materials block light and which let it through - lots of curious thinking and great teamwork!

Bright Class have also had a fantastic start to the year.  We’ve been settling into our new classroom and diving into all the exciting areas of learning.  In our wider curriculum, we’ve been artists, scientists, and designers, exploring materials to design our own curtains.  Using torches, we investigated which fabrics block light and which let it shine through, showing fantastic curiosity and teamwork.

In RE, we’ve been learning about the Harvest Festival and thinking about the importance of giving thanks.  We even harvested our own apples from the allotment, a perfect way to connect our learning to the real world!

In maths, we’ve been exploring number bonds to 10 and using part-part-whole models with conkers and acorns to help us understand how numbers fit together. It’s been hands-on and lots of fun!

We’ve also been sharpening our detective skills in literacy, spotting capital letters in our favourite books and practising our fine motor skills by cutting out different patterns.
