Mathematics Curriculum
Mathematics at Pine Ridge and Lorraine Federation
Welcome to our Maths page
At Pine Ridge and Lorraine Federation we believe that Mathematics is integral in providing children with a way of viewing and making sense of the world in which they live. Building on their own experience, it encourages thinking and reasoning skills, embraces natural curiosity and develops the confidence to tackle problems which arise not only in mathematics but other areas of the curriculum. We always look for opportunities to draw mathematical experiences out of a wide range of activities, from measuring how far we can jump in PE to designing a new quilt with shapes for Baby Bear. In the Early Years, children have many opportunities to explore mathematics through play and it is embedded in our routines. For instance, the children will help to count out the cups for snack time and to ensure there are enough chairs. These experiences are provided alongside teaching basic numeracy skills.
